Power is still out to many and also without water
And there's no hope for any for a dime nor a quarter

Between those that thrive
And those just trying to make it

For them that could not survive
Because they couldn't shake it

Then as winter approaches
The jeopardy of dire circumstances

As homelessness encroaches
The mirage of a thousand trances

Impose a crisis of undue proportions
On families caught up in the torrent

Of poverty's craziest contortions

And where is the swiftest current?

There in a dark level of fearfulness
Practically unknown but there

Rural impoverishment's loneliness
Where there's no one to care

Know the detriment of hopelessness

It's hard to imagine the desperation
Within the level of listlessness

In the throes of escalation

In the hurricane's wake so sodden
So then an elevation of hopelessness

Amongst those most downtrodden!

And Katrina was just as bad
More lives were decimated

For all the troubles we've had
In and out of what's desecrated
